Twenty-five million Mexico City residents face possible evacuation or worse – like a fiery death from a brewing volcanic eruption

Mexican authorities sounded the alarm on Sunday by raising the public disaster alert level to one condition above a ‘red alert.’

The mammoth Popocatepetl volcano lies just 60 miles from Mexico City and is currently threatening the existence of 25 million Central Mexico residents.

The firey beast continues to spew ash and smoke into the air and could blow at any time.

Mexico’s Disaster Prevention Agency released a statement on Sunday telling residents to “remain alert and prepare for a possible evacuation.”

Authorities on Friday shut down all air traffic near the vicinity for a period of six hours.

Estimates show that 5 to 8 million people could die almost instantly if the volcano were to erupt.

The Mexican government acknowledges that it is unprepared to deal with the situation and some feel a coverup is underway.

Monitoring efforts are underway but some feel that the government will keep the news tight-lipped until it’s too late.

The Popocatepetl volcano situation is developing, while at the same time, there are rumors that the U.S. Yellowstone supervolcano might be ready to erupt.
