Data published by the United States Geological Survey shows that the Yellowstone caldera has been strangely active over the past several weeks, implying that pressure could be building in the lava dome that is waiting to escape in the form of an eruption.
Astonishingly, more than 350 earthquakes shook the caldera from June 24 to July 7 near the center of Yellowstone Lake, giving conspiracy theorists something to run with. However, mainstream reports have downplayed any substantial threat.
Two of the 351 earthquakes within the date range were a magnitude 3.0 on the Richter scale, adding credence to panic-based online chatter. Some say the record number of earthquakes is only the beginning and could worsen with time.
