(INTELLIHUB) — Dr. Syra Madad, a senior director of a special pathogens emergency management response team at NYC Health and Hospitals, lead a full-scale Ebola response exercise last Thursday at several hospital locations along with multiple government agencies in New York City.
“I’ll be leading an Ebola full-scale exercise tomorrow at multiple @NYCHealthSystem sites,” she Tweeted one day before the event. “Stay tuned.”

In her Tweet, Madad linked to another Tweet from New York City’s official emergency alert system, which stated:
Exercise: Expect emergency personnel & vehicles in area of H+H Elmhurst in Queens, H+H Lincoln in The Bronx, H+H Kings in Brooklyn, and H+H Bellevue in Manhattan, starting at 9AM on 6/3. This is only a drill. Multilingual & ASL Link: on.nyc.gov/1m4R6B5
Ebola recently resurfaced in western news headlines back in March when the New York Post reported that Newark and JFK handle flights from Ebola-stricken countries in Africa. The report fell on the heels of a Center for Disease Control (CDC) announcement, which stated the two airports would be exclusive reception hubs accomodating flights specifically originating from the Democratic Republic of Congo or Guinea.
The tighter and more stringent air travel procedures and funneling of potentially infected passengers through two U.S. airports imply the significance of the matter.
In response to the Madad’s Exercise, Intellihub’s Shepard Ambellas Tweets:
“Ebola is coming next. Here is a glimpse.”
